Running in Tribute: #MegsMiles in a New England Snow Storm

Ken Skier running in a snowstorm in Lexington, MA
(January 18, 2014)

On January 13, 2014, at about 8:15 AM,
in Hanover County, Virginia,
a drunk driver killed Meg Cross Menzies:
a Boston Marathon runner and mother of three.

She was doing everything right.
Facing traffic.  Running on the shoulder.
In full daylight.

But gone now.
Killed by an apparently drunk driver

That is all I have to say about her death.

Today, runners around the country
are running "Miles for Meg"
to celebrate her life.

Right now a snow squall is dumping more than
an inch of snow per hour in Lexington, MA.

But I don't mind.

Like thousands of runners across the country:
I run.

To celebrate her love of running.

I am so sorry, Meg.

I am sorry for how that drunk driver
shattered your family.

But as I run through this snow globe of swirling white,
I don't feel that I am alone.

(A camera I placed on the rail trail
captured this image.
So it is a self-portrait.)
