People ask me:
why do I photograph open water swimmers?

Because they're magnificent!

Not just when they reach... pull... and glide
as effortlessly as a shadow from a scudding cloud...

...but when they rise up out of the froth
like a breaching whale
or the periscope of a submarine--
to sight the course ahead.

I took this photo at the 2015 Title 9 Women Only Sprint Triathlon in Hopkinton, MA

(Yes, I was swimming at the time.
Just an arm's length away from this swimmer.)

Thanks, Max Performance,
for putting on this great race!

And guess what?

The 2017 Title 9 Women Only Sprint Triathlon is sold out--
(so if you are not already registered, you can't compete)...

but you can come to Hopkinton and cheer for these terrific athletes!

The weather will be sunny and cool!
The water will be filled with fantastic swimmers--
and the road with speedy cyclists and runners...

Hope to see you there!
